Children's rooms and nurseries are becoming increasingly creatively decorated, and the trend that has become very popular in recent years is the jungle-themed room. In line with this is of course the circus theme, but in this blog we will discuss the jungle / safari trend piece.
With the jungle theme you bring nature inside with animals and possibly green accents. You can really go in all directions with this trend! We discuss how to apply this trend with the use of color, wall stickers and other decorative items.
The Basics: Using Color in a Jungle Room
A jungle theme is all about warm, natural colors. Think shades like:
- Green: from olive green to emerald green, this color immediately evokes the jungle feeling.
- Brown and beige: for an earthy base that goes perfectly with wooden furniture (also a trend!) or accessories.
- Gold: subtle gold accents add a touch of luxury to the space (plus kids generally love metallics).
- Accent colours: Use warm colours such as orange, yellow or soft terracotta to make the room more lively.

A good tip is to start with a neutral base on the walls, such as light beige or white. Then add accents with paint or decorative items. A good example of adding color without painting is hanging a canopy or adding a colorful rug.
The animals
Animals play a central role in the jungle trend. Here are some ideas:
- Wall stickers Choose large wall stickers with animals such as giraffes, elephants or a lion to create a real wow factor.
- Cuddly toys and accessories: Fill the room with soft cuddly toys in the shape of jungle animals or use lamps and cushions with leaves.
- Books and decorative items: Stack of books with stories about the jungle (tip: “Can I join in?” From John Kelly & Steph Laberis) or place wooden animal figurines on shelves (tip: take figurines that they can also play with).
- Plants: add a plant! This can of course also be a fake plant if the room is not suitable for it.
Why wall stickers:
Wall stickers are the perfect way to quickly and easily achieve a jungle theme. They are easy to apply and remove, allowing you to create the jungle look without much effort.
Tips for wall stickers
- Large stickers as eye-catchers: Choose one large sticker or a group of animals.
- Combine: combine different jungle animals with, for example, a moon and stars, leaves or flowers.
- Involve the ceiling: Also consider stickers that 'grow' upwards, such as leaves or stars. For safety reasons/precaution: NEVER stick these above the bed.
- Make a pattern: by repeating stickers you get more of a wallpaper. This set is a good example of this.

Another advantage of wall stickers is that they grow with your child. Is your baby crazy about giraffes, but your toddler will later prefer cars? Simply swap out the stickers and give the room a completely new look without having to redecorate the room.
Tips for decoration:
- Choose personal details - For example, add your child's name in wooden letters. Studio Jong or ByBineke offer this.
- Relief - choose soft lighting. For example, by adding a paper shade or an LED light string.
- Make room to play - for example by painting a section of wall with chalk paint or magnetic paint.
- Clean up - provide sufficient storage possibilities! Choose your furniture accordingly. For example, you can take a bed with storage space or a cupboard that is efficiently divided so that you can store more.
- DIY - an old cupboard can easily be turned into a dresser! Also check out Marktplaats or Facebook for second-hand furniture that can be quickly refurbished.
Good luck and above all have fun decorating the room!
